Keeping In Touch (KIT) Days
Your employee (in the UK) is entitled to 10 KIT days during her period of maternity leave. These are not compulsory but your employee is entitled to request to use any number of them.
As an employer, try and encourage KIT days for your employee. Yes, there is a cost, normally you need to pay your employee at the normal rate for a day’s work. See it as an investment in the return of your key talent. Women who keep in touch with the business whilst on maternity leave will feel more connected to the business. By being more connected the employee will feel more involved, closer to developments/new projects and less nervous about her return.
