This is a shout out to all WoMos who have taken on Dry January. It seems there has a massive rise in Dry Jan this year and if you aren’t dry you are probably vegan for the month.
Now I can’t knock it. The health benefits are amazing, and whether you are vegan or dry or both in Jan, you are doing a briliant thing. I have taken the ‘damp’ January approach and did have a bacon sandwich for breakfast, so I can’t claim to be doing well on either account.
I did it last year and I liked the little app on my phone where I checked off dry days. I found it incredibly satisfying being able to see another yellow square with a dry symbol. But there was a problem… I hardly went out. I found staying in was WAY better than the temptation of a restaurant where I would fancy a glass of wine. And I then convinced myself the saved calories from no wine could be rightfully used up on chocolate. I got to the end of Jan half a stone heavier.
So this year, I’m not boxing myself in. I am having the odd drink, and just cutting back. And that’s ok for me. I encourage all of you keep at it if you are. And am cheering you on, I promise, over my very small glass of wine.
I am not sharing my name on this guest blog as my husband is away is this week, and I promised we would do dry Jan together. The kids have run give me an earful and I have a girlfriend popping in this evening and she is pregnant. So you know what, despite being run ragged after I returned from work, I’m right by your side today. It’s a dry Thursday.
