A novice in the kitchen or an experienced chef, we are all cooking far more at home. We know meal times bring people together and yet (especially in lockdown) the act of feeding may have become rather an inconvenience, another box to tick, something else to cram into a busy day?
I love to cook and in the time before lockdown, the kitchen was my creative space, a place to relax after a long day. But wow how things have changed. It’s amazing how being ‘locked down’ has highlighted to many of us just how much we are needing to think about and plan meals. My once thought to be extensive, repertoire is on repeat again! Having to cook three meals a day, every day while keeping the menu exciting, nutritious and delicious - who would have thought that would even be a thing?! and yet it is so important to support our own, and our families, physical and mental wellbeing. Which is a thing, a big thing in todays world.
And so when I discovered a new way, a smarter way, to cook and meal plan, I knew I had to share with you. So here I am sharing my new found cooking revelation… I have recently taken receipt of a new kitchen toy - the Thermomix® TM6.
Immediately it has changed me. Changed the way I cook and plan and also, maybe more surprisingly, has injected the joy back into my kitchen. Sceptical at first, I definitely was. Could kitchen technology transform how I cook, save me time, restore kitchen creativity and see me turning out nutritious, healthy, no added nasties, tasty new dishes every day? Well…..yes.
2 weeks in I’m still learning this new way of course but what I have discovered is that Thermomix® is pretty much like having another pair of hands in the kitchen. (The hands of the kids get involved too but I can safely say this isn’t one of those times when ‘too many hands spoil the broth!’.) We could all do with that right now, in the midst of this madness, but also (hopefully very soon) when the time comes to fling our front doors open and invite family, friends, neighbours back into our homes.
For those of you, like me, who had never heard of the Thermomix®….it’s basically the transformer of kitchen gadgets. This can make light work of everything. Stir, mix, emulsify, chop, blend, grind, cook, heat, steam, weigh, whip and knead.
The part I really love and enjoy is the guided cooking. Thousands of recipes are available via the Cookidoo® platform (more on Cookidoo® below) providing endless culinary inspiration. Think of guided cooking as your personal commis chef prompting you with the ingredients to add, how much to add, when to add it and then doing all the chopping and cooking for you with successful results guaranteed. I mean, yes please!
Before committing yes I had questions. Would the Thermomix® take away somehow from the creative cooking process? Was it cheating in some way?! Would I start to resent this intruder in my kitchen? well, so far absolutely not. It has simply meant more time for me, yay! - less chopping, less stirring, less standing over the stove and less washing up, hurrah!
I knew my Thermomix® was a keeper when, having stumbled in from my evening run, I started a risotto following the guided cooking. Thermomix® chopped, sautéed and then while it cooked and stirred I showered and changed.
15 minutes later - salmon, pea and fennel risotto perfectly cooked and totally delicious.
Cookidoo® is the official Thermomix® global recipe platform for your personalised guided cooking. It’s got such a wonderful and varied selection of recipes and is continuously added to and updated.
I started by talking about the how Coronavirus and lockdown has impacted our daily lives. Discovering the Thermomix® during these times has been a lifesaver but I’m now looking forward and am feeling super excited to welcome friends and family back to my home, entertaining and creating lasting memories with the support of my ‘extra pair of hands’. Thermomix is not just for lockdown - he’s definitely a keeper.
If you would like to find out more, I would love to share my passion for Thermomix® with a virtual cooking experience to demonstrate how it could help you. Please get in touch.
Keep safe, keep going, you’re doing great!
