This week we meet Rebecca Peat who is a Coach and Leadership Development Adviser at Your Step. We sent Rebecca a set of 12 simple questions to answer around her experiences of life as a working mum. Want to know how she makes it work? Here goes…
1. One word to describe how being a WoMo makes you feel?
Fab and wish I’d had access to WoMo when I was on maternity leave!
2. What’s the funniest experience you have had juggling kids and work?
Nothing specific but just general driving around frantically to nursery/parents /in laws and work to manage childcare and work!
3. What is the one piece of advice you could offer another WoMo?
Don’t compare yourself to others especially on social media. Do what is best for you and your situation, not what you think you ought to be doing. Try not to do ‘everything’!
4. What’s the least amount of sleep you’ve gone to work on and how did you cope?
3-5 hours (this was every night for about 5 years), cried in the toilet at work in the morning/on arrival, drank lots of coffee, ate lots of food & told myself this won’t last! Went to bed early, shared my experience with colleagues/talked.
5. What have you learned about yourself as a WoMo?
I am stronger and more resilient than I thought.
6. If you had a working mother’s anthem or mantra, what would it be?
One day they’ll grow up and leave home…!
7. What is your guilty pleasure to combat WoMo guilt the best?
Napping.
8. Would you rather be dealing with a tantrum or presenting in a board meeting?
Presenting in a board meeting.
9. If you asked your child / children what your job is, what would they say?
I coach and train people.
10. What’s the one thing you wish you’d known before you became a WoMo?
How little sleep I would get, how little time I would have to myself to begin with.
11. To date, what has been your best WoMo achievement?
Having healthy and happy children.
12. What do you want to teach your kids about working mothers?
They’re amazing and juggle so much and need recognition!
Thank you Rebecca
