The Side Hustle

I was fascintated to read that 45% of employees have a side hustle/side gig. People do it to bring in extra income and or to follow a passion.

Elena Ciccotelli has launched a podcast dedicated to it. In fact her pod cast is infact, her side hustle! I love it! It is called Side Gig Central and you can read more about it here.

So what about if you are a working Mum? Your life is already full to the brim of a career, kids, your wider family, social life, house chores and add anything else you want to the list. Working Mother have even written a blog about it. They suggest different ways you side-hustle to bring in a bit more money.

Here is the funny thing about a side hustle, well for me anyway. WoMo Network is mine. I have always worked full time, I have three kids and I am passionate about the challenges WoMos face. To be pulled in many directions and feel, at times, you are failing to perform briliantly in any of them, is something most WoMos have felt from one time to another.

So setting up WoMo Network, and encouraging other WoMos to share their stories has been the inspiration that drives me to keep going. And it has led to my next project in life. More to come on that very soon.

I have a WoMo friend who teaches yoga, I know of another lawyer who is a spin instructor and another who markets hair products. It CAN be done and many women will say when the kids are small it is marginally easier. They sleep more, go to bed earlier, and you can have ‘spare’ time. The middle bit is much harder and then when they reach the teen stage, they don’t want you about anyway. All of a sudden they are in their rooms doing homework or spending hours on Snapchat and you are at the kitchen table working on your side hustle after everyone has had dinner.

Whether it is right for you or sounds like a monumental pain in the arse, who cares! It is just fascinating to see the rise of the side hustle as our working world is changing. The gig economy is changing and the route to a more flexible life style is being hunted by many. This can only be good news for WoMos.
