Hamilton - Review

Wow!

I think that’s the best opening word for a blog on Hamilton.

No word of a lie, this was the most incredible theatre production I have EVER seen. It is the only time I have ever been in the theatre and the entire audience stood up for a standing ovation at the end. It was spectacular.

If you have no idea about Alexander Hamilton, the man on the $10 bill, don’t worry. This mash up of singing, rapping and rock style singing will tell you the story. You don’t need to be into history to get the most from Hamilton.

The hype has been huge and it is worth it when you sit in that seat and watch the production. A story about one of America’s founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton. You may have known him as the first Secretary of the Treasury in 1789, but his story before he gets to that point and the impact he had is amazing.

The songs are wonderful, and there are clearly a few superfans in the audience who are quietly singing along (in a good way I might add, not in a distruptive sense!) The singing doesn’t stop, there is no interlude of talking, it is a never ending movement of dance, singing and the narrative of Hamilton’s life. The magic of theatre is fully alive and the stage direction outstanding. How they manage to go back in time, freeze time and speed things up, all with actors on a stage is sublime. I cannot fault it. This is a 5* performance.

The songs interlink with one another at times and remind you of where the story has come from. You are transfixed from the start. On and the king :) I love the king.

Nothing else left to say really except SEE IT. Book a ticket, even if it is months away, and go and see it. You wont regret it and it’ll be worth the wait.

And if in the mean time you want to get prepared and learn about the life of Alexander Hamilton, this is a good resource!
